Inspections at the De Terpen stud and AI station

At stud and AI station De Terpen in Wommels we are committed to the optimal preparation and presentation of our own bred horses at inspections. From the moment the young horses come out of the rearing, usually around the age of 2.5 to 3 years, we carefully guide them towards their future.

Our approach is focused on calm and patience. The horses are calmly tamed, lunged, walked and clipped, so that they appear in top condition at the inspections. After the inspections we continue their trajectory: depending on their development, the horses are saddle-broken or sold.

Stallion inspection: a road to the top
For stallions, the stallion inspection is the ultimate goal. This is an intensive and demanding process that starts with a first and second viewing, followed by three preliminary riding days. Only the very best stallions go on to the Central Examination, a 10-week test period in which they are assessed on all aspects. It is a long and challenging road, but the reward is great: approval as a breeding stallion is the crowning glory of the work.

Predicates for mares: a valuable addition to breeding
For mares, the focus is on obtaining predicates. Each predicate, from Studbook to Model, increases the value of the mare for breeding. A Star predicate is a fantastic achievement, while a Model mare belongs to the absolute top.

A great example of our successful approach is Hilbert 529, a stallion that proudly represents the qualities of our horses.
